Skiathos maintains its name from ancients times and means "shady place". This is because of the shade from its very dense forests, with trees reaching at the edge of the Aegean Sea. The island is crossed by streams, with many chapels scattered all over, monasteries and the magnificent “Kastro” (Castle) located on the northern rocky peninsula. It is worth discovering all these either by car or motorcycle ideally although by bicycle, horseback riding or hiking is also possible as you can follow the historical paths, when some of them have a history of 30 centuries or more. According to the historian Thucydides, the island was inhabited at least since 1600 BC. 

Although its only 12 kms long and 6 kms wide, its lacy shores with small and large bays hide more than 60 sandy beaches with golden sand or white pebbles with transparent and turquoise waters. Its recommended to sail by boat and to visit the other neighboring islands, inhabited or uninhabited, of the Northern Sporades. 

Equally seductive is a tour around the town of Skiathos with its red roofed tiled houses, cobbled streets and a picturesque, natural harbor that is dominated by the Venetian castle called Bourtzi. A number of tavernas, restaurants, cafes, bars and clubs give you the opportunity to taste some wonderful dishes, enjoy unforgettable, mouthwatering cocktails and to experience its uniqueness, fun and relaxation.
